Columbus FiberNet (CFN) is a "carrier of carriers" for metropolitan access to the high bandwidth telecommunications customers in Columbus. CFN's backbone provides high-speed access to the Internet and a greater wealth of data services to the Columbus community, both commercially and residentially.

The CFN duct system consists of 20 innerducts, 1 ½" in diameter, capable of placing a 96, 144, 288 or 432 strand fiber cable. The network design maximizes the total number of high-speed data customers within one to two miles of the CFN route. The 70-mile network ring passes over 20 central office and points of presence facilities to provide quick connectivity to major long haul transmission routes. With over 1,110 manholes averaging 3 every 600 feet, each service provider has access to their facilities.

Some of the benefits of the CFN network are speed to market, minimized disruption to the roadway infrastructure, network security, ease of locates, customer access, network scalability, and network redundancy. The metropolitan ring is also well documented and easily locatable to avoid unnecessary service interruptions.

Columbus FiberNet is an economic development tool to bring more high tech companies to Columbus. With a high tech population and high tech jobs, more technology companies will relocate to Columbus to expand their operations. And companies can expand and grow with the transparency of real estate, connecting one building to another next door, across campus, or on the other side of town.

Columbus FiberNet is a 70 Mile ring connecting the down-town central business district with Hilliard, Dublin, Worthington, Polaris, Westerville, Gahanna, and the Ohio State University Campus.
